From TV Producer to Interior Designer

The mother of invention
Our fourth baby was on the way so we had found a new larger home - it would be our third house as a family and another doer upper. Hooray! Except our current house wasn't even on the market yet! Oops. We needed to squeeze every penny out of our house to be able to buy the new one so I set to work making every room feel welcoming. I had to become an expert home stager and FAST.
I became obsessed with comparing different suppliers of furniture, flooring, lighting and homewares. I could tell you where to get the ideal tap, the perfect footstool, the ultimate pendant. I made a documentary once about the Chinese pianist, Lang Lang - he was living proof that it takes 10,000 hours to master your subject. I realised that I was heading in his direction but instead of playing piano everyday for hours I was a moodboard maestro!

Ikigai
Anyway all that research and speed staging worked! We sold the house after 1 week on the market and for more than the new house cost! We moved into our new home. Sadly our wee fourth baby didn't make it to see that new house.
Much soul searching (and Covid 19 angst) ensued and after 20 years of working behind the camera in the TV industry, I came across the Japanese philosophy, Ikigai. It basically means finding something you love to do, that you're good at doing and that you can make a living from. For me it became clear that was going to be interior design. The TV jobs were still paying the bills but I did find myself increasingly gravitating towards working more on design and home TV shows - Ultimate Wedding Planner, Extraordinary Escapes with Sandi Toksvig and Location, Location, Location with Kirsty and Phil. All brilliant fun but I wanted to be producing the homes NOT the shows!

Homezie is born
In the end the universe dropped a massive hint. In spring 2024 there was a really significant downturn in the TV industry - hardly any jobs around and it led me to conclude it was time to see if Interior Design was my Ikigai! With unwavering support and advice from my architect husband, Stephen Allison of Allison Architects, Homezie was founded.
Now I get to spend my time doing what I love and bringing my passion, organisation skills and personal style to the homes of the lovely people of Glasgow.
I hope this gives you some context for the sentiment behind Homezie. I look forward to meeting you and seeing what gorgeous changes we can produce together in your home.
Your new home collaborator…
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to carve out a craft room, move your toddler into their own room, get the kitchen of your dreams. Perhaps you too have seen a house you’re desperate to buy and you need to sell and quick! Whatever it is, Homezie is here to advice, research, source and manage your next home project. See you soon!
